Abstract

A multi-level and multi-site local mesh refinement method is developed to calculate the local responses of 2D problems with multi-site microstructures. The optimal mesh density is employed for all subregions to reduce the computational cost and meshing difficulty, and overcome the obstacle resulted from the mesh conformity requirement. The two-level, three-level, and multi-level mesh refinement methods are developed firstly; the refined meshes in the critical regions are regarded as a super element. And then, based on two-level and three-level methods, a multi-level and multi-site refinement method is established.
