A finite element model for piezoelectric energy harvesting plate with a resonant circuit

Abstract

Considering the characteristics of the resonant circuit, the electromechanical equations of the vibration energy harvesting plate (VEHP) with resistor-inductor (RL) series and parallel connection resonant circuits are modeled by finite element method. The finite element model of the whole system is established based on Kirchhoff's plate by using Hamilton Principle. Then, the output power and vibration displacement frequency response functions of the VEHP are obtained under harmonic excitations, and the numerical results are validated by that of the existing literature. Moreover, the parametric analysis of the resistance and the inductance are implemented. The results show that the resistance, inductance and connection type can significantly change the electrical coupling frequency, and influence the energy harvesting characteristic of the VEHP. Comparing with a purely resistance circuit, the response frequency band of the present VEHP can be remarkably broadened, and the output power can be improved. These two resonant circuits can contribute to enhance the energy harvesting performance of the VEHP.
