Abstract

A low mutual coupling wideband and wide-angle scanning phased array antenna operating in the X-band is investigated. To reduce the mutual coupling, a metal back cavity is loaded under the dipole integrated with the SMP connector, which enables equal-amplitude and opposite-phase currents to be generated on the adjacent dipole arms for decoupling. The proposed antenna has wideband decoupling characteristics and wide-angle scanning capability. The antenna has 8.6-11.2GHz (26.3%) impedance band (|S44|<-10dB). The mutual coupling is less than -25dB in the full operating band. The proposed antenna can steer the main beam from -70° to 70° with the gain fluctuation less than 2.4dB and sidelobe less than -9.4dB in the bandwidth of 8.6-9.3GHz.
