A Cascaded Linear Regulator for Cathode Power Supply of Traveling Wave Tube with Ultra-Low Ripple Voltage

Abstract

An ultra-low ripple traveling wave tube cathode power supply is introduced in this paper, achieving the secondary suppression of the high-voltage output ripple by linear voltage regulator circuit cascaded in series at the lower end of the high-voltage rectifier circuit. With the adjustment of two feedback loops of high-frequency PWM regulation and series linear regulation, the designed converter achieves ultra-low ripple. With series voltage regulation transistor cascaded to the low voltage side, operating voltage of the linear regulator is greatly reduced, and high-voltage electron tubes is replaced. The proposed circuits can supply a ultra-low ripple high voltage, while reducing the circuit size, ensuring efficiency and reliability. In this paper, the circuit design, working principle and simulation results of the low-ripple traveling-wave tube cathode power supply are introduced, with which can improve the ripple rejection can be improved ten times better.
