Abstract

In order to improve the stability of slot rough machining for open blisks, the ruled surface was used to approximate the freeform blade surface, which can reduce the computational complexity of slot rough machining for open blisks with freeform blade surfaces. The method of using a ruled surface to approximate the freeform surface was discussed. A new algorithm for generating tool axis vector was presented, and the 4-axis NC side milling method was further developed. The roughing paths planed by the new method are collision-free with surrounding surfaces and obstacles. The demonstration shows that the side rough milling method can improve the cutting stability for open blisks greatly.
