Abstract

A new 3D surface reconstruction method for complex parts was presented according to the speciality of slice images of cone-beam computed tomography. Firstly, high accurate closed contours were extracted from the serial slice images with 3D subvoxel edge detection algorithm, and the topological information of the slice contours was reconstructed. Then some contour groups of local structures were gained with an improved contour segmentation algorithm based on sectional properties. Finally, the whole 3D surface of parts was created by piling and sewing up the contour groups. The experiments indicate that the method segments contours accurately and stably and makes reconstructed results topological exact for parts which have complex structures inside and outside.
