Abstract

In recent years, the application of luminescence lifetime-responsive probes in the field of biological detection and imaging has made significant progress. This paper systematically introduces design strategies and applications of luminescence lifetime-responsive probes for bioimaging and biosensing, including organic dyes, transition metal complexes, and nanoparticles, etc.Among them,long-lived probes can be distinguished from short-lived autofluorescence of biological tissues by time-gated photoluminescence imaging, minimizing the influence of autofluorescence and improving the signal-to-noise ratio values. The signals with different decay rates can be separated in the time domain by photoluminescence lifetime imaging and further report the decay details of each pixel, enriching the details of imaging and improving the imaging contrast and the sensitivity.
