Transient liquid phase bonding of magnesium alloy (AZ31B) and titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) using aluminium interlayer

摘要

The microstructure and mechanical properties of transient liquid phase (TLP) joint, which was formed by bonding magnesium alloy (AZ31B) to titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) using aluminium interlayer, have been investigated. When bonding time was 180 min, products of interfacial reactions, microstructure of joint and bonding strength depended on bonding temperature. When bonding temperature was lower than 450°C, the temperature or composition of AZ31B/Al interface couldn't satisfy prerequisites of Mg-Al eutectic reaction, then no liquid phase was produced in the joint and bonding of AZ31B and Ti6A14V was difficult to be realized. In the process of bonding temperature variation from 450°C to 480°C, The temperature had great effect on kinetic factors of AZ31B/Al/Ti6Al4V interfacial reaction, which decided the composition and distribution of the reaction product. The joint shear strength of 72.4 MPa which is 84.2% of AZ31B strength (82.4 MPa) can be achieved after bonding at 470°C for 180 min.
