Investigation into the influences of the low speeds’ accuracy on RANS simulations

摘要

Accurate Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations in low-speed flows are in high demands for the industrial area. In the past years, many researchers studied this issue by conducting analyses on the turbulence modeling or the high order reconstruction methods. Few people notice the influence of the scheme’s low-speed accuracy on the RANS simulations. In this paper, we conduct a systematic study on this issue. The following four numerical tests are conducted: the flat plate, the NACA4412 airfoil, and the backward facing step. Grid convergent results in these cases show that a high level of accuracy at low speeds is beneficial to the steady RANS computations.
