Circulating Current Suppression for Ground Tied Energy Converter System in Aircraft

摘要

Traditional commercial aircraft with variable frequency power supply system, two stage variable frequency to constant frequency (VFCF) converter system with common ground is used to provide constant AC voltage of 400 Hz frequency. This solution results in low frequency circulating current and DC voltage charging effect. In this paper, it is identified that the common mode (CM) voltage of the rectifier contributes to the low frequency circulating current. Therefore, a CM choke-based method is proposed to provide a high impedance in the path of the CM circulating current. In this way, the circulating current can be suppressed without additional modification in the control algorithm. A simplified mathematic model of the VFCF converter system is derived to design the CM choke inductance, aiming to limit the circulating current to a specific value. Simulation and experimental studies are presented to verify the performance of the proposed CM choke method.
