A useful computerized meshing analysis of numerical tooth surfaces for spiral bevel gears

Sections 1 through 4 of the full paper explain our meshing analysis mentioned in the title, which we believe is useful in some aerospace applications and whose core consists of: (1) the computerized meshing analysis of spiral bevel gears in aerospace application and numerical running tests are implemented; (2) an initial surface fitting used by NURBS is performed with the discrete data from the measured coordinates or from the calculation of theoretical tooth surface; (3) that the geometrical modification considers the normal vector of discrete point of numerical tooth surface can be achieved through the optimization of control point; (4) the mathematical model of the two numerical tooth surfaces for simulation is established and the running tests are run. The simulation results calculated with our meshing analysis are presented in Figs. 3 through 6; the results of running tests are presented in Fig.7. All these results and their analysis show preliminarily that: (1) the error of amplitude of transmission error is less than 0.46% with respective to the theoretical one with the fitting of the consideration of normal vector; (2) the contact patterns in size, orientation and location, calculated with our meshing analysis, agree very well with those obtained with running tests. Therefore, our numerical tooth contact analysis (NTCA) with normal vector consideration can in some aerospace applications replace the running tests or in other words replace the costly test determination of tooth contact pattern and transmission error curve.
