A new method for calculating magnitude of wind gust

Analysis of spacecraft vehicle response to the magnitude of random wind gust during flight is important in the establishment of design structural requirements and operational capability. Currently, there are lots of disadvantages in the calculation methods of random gust magnitude, such as low precision, fitting a function to curves and only a single confidence level by statistics. In this paper, a new method based on the spectral correlation is provided for calculating the magnitude of wind gust as a function of both gust half-wavelength and the desired probability level of exceeding a specified gust magnitude. The spectrum and discrete model of random gust are given. Then establish the function and the derivation to calculate random gust magnitude based on the correlation. It is shown that the new technique is exact, convenient and also allows for the selection of risk level of exceeding gust magnitude.
