Abstract

Ball bearings constitute pivotal components in various mechanical systems. Comprehending the vibration behaviors exhibited by the bearing is critical to ensure its reliable operation and diagnose potential failures. To ensure the mechanical performance of the bearing under high-speed operation, an innovative bearing with a hollow outer ring (hollow bearing) is designed to reduce the heat in the bearing. However, the vibration characteristics of such innovative bearings remain poorly understood. To compensate for this shortcoming, a hollow bearing dynamic model considering the outer ring flexibility is established in this study. Finite element and numerical methods are effectively combined to calculate the hollow bearing vibrations. The influences of the bearing hollow design on the stiffness and vibrations are discussed. The results suggest that this study provides an innovative dynamic method for examining the hollow bearing vibrations.
