Abstract

The UPR (Unsaturated Polyester Resins) has been toughened and strengthened By using the nanometer TiO2 powder and an obvious brittle-tough transformation was observed while utilizing the simple-support-beam impact strength to characterize its toughness. The critical content of the nanometer TiO2 is 6% (mass fraction). The flexural-strength and impact-strength and impact-strength of nanometer TiO2/UPR increases by 55% and 46% from those of the UPR, respectively. The micro appearance of the impact fracture showed that the fracture pattern of the nanometer TiO2/UPR changes from typical brittle to typical tough fracture near the critical point.
