Abstract

This study aims to prepare environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) with good resistance to calcium magnesium aluminum silicate (CMAS) corrosion and water-oxygen corrosion by incorporating Y-Al-Si-O (YAS) microcrystalline glass into Y2Si2O7 (YDS). The results indicate that YAS can be used as a sintering aid to significantly improve the densification of YDS-YAS ceramics, achieving optimal performance at 30 wt% YAS. In the CMAS corrosive environment, YDS-30 %YAS exhibits the best corrosion resistance, with a corrosion thickness of about 256 μm (1350 °C, 10 h). This is mainly because the anorthite layer induced by YAS in the barrier layer and the apatite reaction layer formed by YDS hinder further corrosion. In the water-oxygen corrosion environment, Y2Si2O7 and mullite in YDS-30 %YAS ceramics have excellent corrosion resistance, making them no less than or even stronger than YDS ceramics.
