Abstract

Phenyl phosphine oxide not only possesses wide band gap, high triplet energy, excellent thermal stability, suitable solubility, strong electron-withdrawing ability, but also allows easy chemical modification to effectively tune the carrier injection and transport. Therefore, the synthesis and application of phenyl phosphine oxide derivatives (PPOs) have attracted great attention and PPOs shows great potential in organic optoelectronic materials, especially in recent research of blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). In this article, recent progress of PPOs with a particular emphasis of different types of materials are reviewed, according to the different functions in OLED including host materials, electron transport materials, and emitting materials. The design and synthesis, thermal stability, photophysical properties, electrochemical properties and device performance are also summarized. Finally, the perspective and development of PPOs are discussed.
