Abstract

On the basis of the common physical modification of the asphalt, crosslinking agent and catalyst were adopted to improve the performance of asphalt. The modification technology was studied. Results show that crosslinking agent and catalyst is favorable for the polymer to react with asphalt to form chemical bonding between them and three-dimensional network structure, leading to the improvement of the performance of asphalt. Besides, the dosages of the crosslinking agent, modifying temperature and time also influence the performance of the modified asphalt. When the ratio of DVB to asphalt is 0.0125, the ratio of catalyst to asphalt is 0.025, the modified temperature is 140°C, and the modifying time is 2.5 h, the softening point of modified asphalt rises from 49.5°C to 63.5°C, and the penetration drops from 68.5 degree to 39.1 degree. As a result, the performance of the asphalt is improved obviously and becomes more stable after modification.
