Abstract

Piezochromic materials (PCMs), as a kind of stimulus-responsive material, have gained significant attention in various fields, such as mechanical sensors, security papers, and storage devices, owing to their tunable photoluminescence under external pressure. How to design the materials with pressure-induced luminescence enhancement at the molecular level is of great significance for further expanding the applications of PCMs. This review provides a comprehensive exploration of recent advances in the field of pure organic piezochromism, with a primary focus on spectroscopic behaviors, underlying mechanisms, and the establishment of structure-property relationships, which could offer a valuable framework for researchers to design and synthesize advanced PCMs with enhanced luminescence.
