Abstract

Aqueous phase processing of organic nanoscale semiconductors for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are fascinating and become a hot topic owing to their merits of low-cost, greena and eco-friendly processing. Topological superiority of non-planar 3-dimensional molecules with supramolecular steric hindrance offers more degrees of freedom to design nonvcovalent driving forces to organize into nanostructures. We here demonstrate aqueous phase deposition of quasi-1D nanorod from the cruciform-shaped spiro [fluorene-9, 7'-dibenzo[c,h]acridine]-5'-one (SFDBAO) into heterjunction thin-film LEDs. The length of as prepared SFDBAO nanorods undergo a kinetic morphology evolution from 2.12 to 11.09 μm, with an elongated octahedron at the edge. A well n-type semiconducting property is investigated with a broad EL emission at ~ 600 nm, through the as prepared LED.
