Simplified method for obtaining envelope of cutter swept volume

Wang and Blackmore gave algorithms for obtaining the envelope of a cutter swept volume. But their algorithms require computations to be done on a work station.In this paper, a simplified algorithm was given which requires only a personal computer. Using the well-known envelope equation in derivation, a simpler algorithm for obtaining the envelope of a cutter swept volume was obtained. This simpler algorithm is useful in simulation study of numerically controlled machining. Ultimately it is expected that such a simpler algorithm will help reduce the difficulties encountered when employing numerically controlled machines.
