Side force proportional control with vortex generators fixed on tip of slender

Abstract

There is a large side force on slender at high angle of attack. In this thesis, vortex generators (a micro delta wing) are fixed on the tip of slender model, which have 10° semi-apex angle, rotate the vortex generators along the model axis, the side force change approximate linear proportional at high angle of attack (AOA). Moreover, the control effect of vortex generators' halfwingspan length, sweepback of lead edge, AOA and Reynold number had been researched. Base on this research, the vortex generators with 6 mm half-wingspan and 45° sweepback had appear better control effect, it can control the side force approximate linear proportional at a series of Re and AOA. This device is so simple that it may be a useful appliance in the future.
