Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to define RFID-enabled smart objects and its framework for achieving real-time information collection and flexible configuration in manufacturing companies. In order to achieve this goal, RFID and agent technologies are proposed to be integrated into this framework, such that each entity in shop floor, such as machines, can become an intelligent entity, called as a smart object, which can determine their actions automatically based on the designated workflow and its status in manufacturing environment. Moreover, it enables companies to immediately change its configuration to fulfil customer requirements without any complex and difficult procedures. In addition, the real-time manufacturing information can also be obtained effectively and easily from operation level so that the efficiency of upper management would be improved.
