Abstract

The reliability of mechanical component is of great value in engineering design, but the correlation of the failure modes of mechanical component brings the difficulty on calculating the reliability. The simplification way to calculate the reliability of component with correlated failure modes is presented, and it is proved by the narrow reliability bounds theory that was presented by O.Detlevsen. At last, the simplification method is compared with the Monte Carlo simulation by the example calculating the reliability for axis. The result shows that the simplification method considering the correlation is simple, efficiency and accurate, and is of great value for calculating the reliability of correlated failure modes in engineering design.
