Abstract
Since the last century, a variety of reactive synthesis methods has been extensively studied and developed to derive ceramic composite materials, which show superior mechanical and physical properties for numerous applications. Melt casting/infiltration is one of the preferred techniques to fabricate ceramic-metal composites. In this article, different reactive processing routes and the properties of the synthesized ceramic-metal composites are reviewed. The reaction forming techniques regarding raw material properties and processing parameters are discussed.
