Progress in the liquid crystal alignment

Abstract

Here, we introduce the basic principles of the liquid crystal (LC) optical switch and their application in telecommunication and information displays. Then we address the different alignment techniques and LC alignment materials, such as rubbing, LPP (Liner Photo-Polymerization by polarized UV light), oblique evaporation and Langmuir-Blodgett (L-B) film. The advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are discussed. Finally, the prospects of the LC alignment technology are given.
