Abstract

An effective method for calculating the heating rates on hypersonic vehicles is developed, where the numerical simulations out of the boundary layer and engineering predictions in the boundary layer. The boundary-layer edge conditions are determined by 3D CFD method and solved by 3D Euler Codes. In the boundary layer, the heating rates are computed by the locally similar theory. Heating distributions of blunt cone and bicone are computed, and the results are in good agreement with existing experimental data and numerical solutions of the NS Codes.
