Abstract

In this article poly[9-methyl-9-(4-cyanobutyl)fluorene] (MBCN-PF), a new polyfluorene derivative, as an intermediate for water-soluble polyfluorenes has been synthesized by chemical polymerization using FeCl3 as oxidizing reagent. MBCN-PF can be easily dissolved in common organic solvents such as CHCl3 and THF. The polymer has been characterized by FTIR. 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-vis spectroscopy, PL, GPC and CV. MBCN-PF emits intense blue light upon UV excitation.
