Abstract

An anti-oxidation SiC coating prepared with pack cementation process was applied to protect C/C composites from oxidation at high temperature. The microstructure and composition of SiC coating was analyzed with SEM and XRD. The oxidation behavior of the composites with SiC coating from room temperature to 1500 °C was investigated. The results show that the as-received coating is mainly composed of β-SiC with a little of Si and there exist a few microcracks on the coating surface. Further observation reveals that the SiC coating is perfectly packed on the C/C composites with interlocked bonding. The oxidation behavior of the coated C/C composites can be divided into four parts from room temperature to 1500 °C, and the coating shows excellent oxidation resistances at high temperature.
