Abstract

An optimum wideband beamformer design method is proposed to improve the performance of the BCSSM (beamspace coherent signal subspace method) at low SNR (signal noise ratio) and reduce the computational load. In the method, time-domain wideband beamformers with characteristics of constant beamwidth and low sidelobe are designed to preprocess wideband signals without any distortion and suppress interferences effectively. A combination of FIR (finite impulse response) filters and digital delay lines is used in the beamformer structure to reduce the order of FIR filters. Simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the computational load and improve the performance of BCSSM at low SNR, compared with conventional; optimum design of beamformer.
