Abstract
Ordered wire-like cobalt nano-arrays were prepared via electrodeposition of the metal within the pores of anodically-grown porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes. Measurements with UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometer show that the optical properties of the Co/AAO composites depend on the length and the diameter of the Co nano-wires. As the Co composition increases, the absorption band-edge is strongly red-shifted (283-398 nm) and the reflectance of the composite changes from 70% to 6%. Meanwhile the composite exhibits the optical features of a semiconductor with direct band gap.
