Abstract
The contributions of this paper are: 1. The parametric differential equation of gearing is transformed into one with constant coefficients, then the transmission error can be conveniently expressed. 2. The time-averaged transmissibility can now be calculated. 3. By using the calculated time-averaged transmissibility, the vibration level of a pair of gears at high speed can be estimated. This is valuable information for the dynamic design of gear transmission. Futher, the transmission error and dynamic relative torsional deflections of a pair of helical gears were experimentally measured, and then their time-averaged transmissibility was worked out. These experimental results confirm the validity of the authors' method of calculation.
