Numerical investigation of a flutter exciting system based on overset grids

Abstract

Numerical simulation of compressible unsteady Navier-Stokes equations has been used to investigate the working property of a new kind of flutter exciting system based on the method of unstructured dynamic overset grids. The exciting performance of the system will get worse if that the slotted central angle of rotating cylinder is too large or too small, or that the distance from the rear edge of the wing is too near or too far. But increasing the diameter of rotating cylinder can enhance the exciting performance. The shape of the slotted cylinder section also has some influence to the exciting force, and the crescent shape is better than the present shape. When the slotted length is halved, the choice of slotting at the root is better, and it can give a better exciting performance.
