Abstract
To improve the multiple cyclic ablation performance of ablation resistant coating, the (ZrC-TaC)/(ZrC-SiC) multilayer coating were designed and fabricated by thermal spraying on the SiC coated C/C composites. After multiple cyclic ablation tests (2.4 MW/m2, 60 s × 8), the linear variation rate of multilayer coatings was decreased by 75%, compared with the monolayer ZrC-TaC coating. The great improvement of cyclic ablation performance was related with the control of low Ta/Zr ratio to increase the temperature resistance of Zr-Ta-O oxide film and the interfacial crack deflection induced by the ZrC-SiC interface layer.
