Abstract

Using La(NO3)3-doped multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-La(NO3)3) as the absorber and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as the matrix, the electromagnetic and absorbing properties of MWCNT-La(NO3)3/PVC composites were studied. The complex permittivity of MWCNT-La(NO3)3/PVC composites decreased slightly with increasing frequency. The reflection loss minimum declined with increasing thickness and shifted to lower frequency region in the frequency region of 2–18 GHz, and the microwave absorbing property increased, compared to MWCNT/PVC composite. The reflection loss minimum (−32.57 dB, 3.52 GHz) of MWCNT-La(NO3)3/PVC composite with 8 mm thickness was the lowest. It is feasible to develop microwave absorbing composites with strong absorption and wide band properties utilizing rare earth-modified MWCNTs as the absorber.
