Abstract
This article presents a new solution for the lubrication and wear problem of TiAl alloy in vacuum by coating Ti3AlC2 layer. Ti 3AlC2 coating and Ti-46Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy substrate are simultaneously consolidated by hot-pressed approach. The coating demonstrates superior self-lubricity, CoF of 0.2 and negligible wear, in the vacuum of 2.0 × 104 Pa. A transition layer is formed in the interface, resulting in very strong coating adhesion.
