Abstract

Sections 1, 2 and 3 of the full paper explain the mathematical modeling and simulation analysis. The core of section 1 is that we analyze the riveting press process of a flush rivet and divide it into four phases and point out that the true strain of the rivet header is made up of the strain of the rivet slug formed in the pressing phase and the strain in the rivet header formation phase. Based on the above analysis, section 2, by employing the power-hardening theory, establishes eq. (8) for calculating the suitable pressing force on the flush rivet. Section 3 uses the axial symmetry model to carry out the finite element (FE) simulation of the riveting process. Section 4 compares the pressing force calculation results calculated by eq. (8) with those calculated by the FE simulation. The calculation results, given in Fig. 7 and Table 3, show preliminarily that eq. (8) is good.
