Abstract

Compared with high purity graphite, the internal friction characteristics of pyrolytic carbon matrix carbon-carbon composites were studied. According to experimental results, two internal friction mechanisms were proposed, including thermoelastic and static hysteresis mechanism. The effect of the interface between carbon fiber and carbon matrix plays an important role on the internal friction characters of carbon-carbon composites, which produces some unique internal friction phenomena. The internal friction increases with the increase of temperature and the dynamic modulus decreases with the increase of temperature.
