Abstract

Roller plays an important role in power spinning of large ellipsoidal heads with variable thickness. A 3D-FE model was developed. The influences of roller parameters including roller feed rate, roller nose radius and roller oblique angle on the process were investigated. The results show that: the increase of roller feed rate, the selection of appropriate roller nose radius and roller oblique angle may improve the close-fitting of the part with the die and the roundness of the head; the decrease of roller feed rate and roller nose radius, also the increase of roller oblique angle may improve the deforming state of the flange and even eliminate such defects, as diameter enlarging and material bulging to have the wall thickness of the head being more homogeneous. The investigations on influences of roller parameters on the forming process may lay a foundation for determining the forming parameters and optimizing the technological design.
