Fault Diagnosis of Rotating Rectifier in More Electric Aircraft Three-Stage Generator Based on Range-to-Mean Ratio of Excitation Current

Abstract

With the development of More Electric Aircraft (MEA), improving the reliability of aviation power system has gradually become the focus of researchers. The three-stage generator (TSG), as the main power supply equipment of MEA, has a direct impact on the stability of power supply due to the failure of its rotating rectifier (e.g., diode open circuit/short circuit). In this paper, a novel fault diagnosis method is proposed for rotating rectifier diode open-circuit/short-circuit faults. This method integrates rotor electrical angle analysis with ripple current analysis based on the main exciter, which firstly analyses the ripple of the stator excitation current of the main exciter in healthy and faulty states, then calculate the ratio of the range to the mean of the excitation current of the main exciter, which is used to determine the type of the faults, and combined with the combination of the Ripple Ratio and the rotor angle to locate the faulty diode. The simulation results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.
