Abstract

In this work, the supercritical/subcritical injection characteristics of RP-3 aviation kerosene were investigated at room temperature and pressure. A high-pressure injection system was used to generate sprays from a nozzle with a diameter of 0.5 mm at a maximum reduced injection pressure of 1.88 and reduced temperature of 1.09. High speed microscopic shadowgraphy was used to record the injection process. The jet pattern, jet spreading angle and the near field structure (Mach disk) was paid special attention. The results showed that the injection temperature influenced the jet pattern greatly, the Mach disk distance/diameter was nearly kept constant with the increasing of the temperature but was increased with the injection pressure. The jet spreading angle was reached the maximum value when the injection temperature was near the critical point at supercritical injection pressure.
