Abstract
Evolution of oxidation scale for a Ni-22Cr-20Co-18W alloy at 1100°C was investigated by means of XRD and SEM (EDS). The results show that at the initial stage of the oxidation, a oxide scale of the mixture of Cr 2O 3, NiO and (Ni, Co, Mn, Cr) 3O 4, which is of M 3O 4 type, is formed on the surface. The single-layer oxide film changes into double layer one after long time oxidation, the sequential Cr 2O 3 scale forms at the inner layer, and the outer NiO scale could effectively retard the volatilization of the inner Cr 2O 3 scale; the voids are formed at the scale/alloy interface and inner oxidation of Al element is observed at the same time.
