Abstract

The enhancement of apatite formation ability of the alkali-heat treated titanium using pre-calcification was presented. The samples subjected to alkali-treatment or alkali-heat treatment and pre-calcification were soaked in simulated body fluid for 4 days. The surface chemical analysis after pre-calcification was carried out with energy dispersive spectroscopy. Results indicated that pre-calcification could enhance the bioactivity of alkali-treated or alkali-heat treated titanium, without destroying the graded structures.
