Embedded real time image compression module for data link

Abstract

In order to solve the current fundamental conflicts between the large amounts of image data and low channel bandwidth of tactical data link, and to realize real time transmission of images, an effective image compression scheme is presented. A novel algorithm for CCSDS 122.0-B-1 image data compression convenient for hardware implementation is proposed. The algorithm has lower complexity and good parallel architecture, the reconstructed image quality and coding speed are improved. Experiment results show the feasibility and efficiency of this scheme, and the peak signal noise ratio (PNSR) is larger than 35dB and the coding time is reduced, which totally meets real time compression requirement.
