Abstract

The SiCf/SiC composites containing various thickness of pyrolytic carbon (PyC) interphase were prepared and their properties were investigated for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications in the frequency of 8.2-12.4 GHz. The composites containing 310 nm thickness (3.3 vol%) PyC interphase show an about 25 dB shielding effectiveness in the whole frequency band. Interestingly, the contribution of reflection to the EMI shielding effectiveness increases and the contribution of absorption decreases as the PyC interphase thickness increases.
