Abstract

The effects of phthalazine (PHZ) on photothermographic materials based on silver benzotriazole have been studied. The results indicated that the development of silver benzotriazole materials was promoted by the introduction of PHZ, and the promotion was strengthened by increasing the amounts of PHZ. The promotion of PHZ was also strengthened by the cooperation with H2PA. The function of PHZ was influenced by the pH of the silver benzotriazole emulsion constructed from phthalazine/phthalic acid (PHZ/H2PA) toner system, a higher pH would be favourable for promoting the development. The scanning electronic microscope photographs implied that a silver complex, which was supposed to be easy to transmit silver ions to development center, might have been produced by introducing PHZ into the silver benzotriazole materials.
