Effect of Blade-Angle Slot Casing Treatment with Different Axial Skew Angles on Axial-Flow Compressor Stability

Abstract

In this paper, unsteady numerical simulations were carried out in a high-speed axial compressor to investigate the effect of blade-angle slots with different axial skew angle on compressor stability. Five different axial skew angles of slots have been investigated. The numerical investigation revealed that when the axial skew angle of blade-angle slots progressively increases, their ability to enhance compressor stability initially strengthens and subsequently weakens, and the associated efficiency penalty gradually diminishes. The underlying mechanism for blade-angle slots enhancing compressor stability involves suppressing the development of tip leakage flow and reducing tip blockage.
