Abstract

Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is increasingly regarded as an effective solution to address spectrum shortages by enabling spectrum sharing between sensing and communication functions. The rational allocation of limited resources between communication and sensing functions is crucial for improving system performance. To solve this problem, this paper explores adaptive subcarrier allocation in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)-based Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) ISAC systems. To evaluate system performance, a performance weighting factor is introduced, using the weighted sum of the communication data rate (CDR) and sensing mutual information (MI) as the optimization objective. Subcarriers are divided into communication-exclusive and sensing-exclusive modes, and their allocation is optimized to maximize overall system performance. A Dynamic Programming (DP) algorithm with backtracking solves the integer programming problem, preserving allocation results. Simulation results show that the proposed subcarrier allocation scheme outperforms scenarios with independent communication and sensing.
