Abstract
A dual-frequency electromagnetic field is developed to smelt the solid metal and confine the molten metal into a final shape without any contamination. The process of the dual-frequency electromagnetic containerless confinement is controlled more easily than that of a single-frequency electromagnetic confinement. The dual-frequency electromagnetic pressure of 350 and 50 kHz is analyzed and calculated as the sum of two single-frequency electromagnetic pressures by the superposition principle. By designing a suitable pattern of induction heating and electromagnetic confinement inductors, which produce electromagnetic pressure to balance static pressure of the height of the liquid metal, various cross-section shaped aluminum samples were successfully confined.
