Dual Circular-Polarized Wide-Angle Scanning Phased Array Based on Tri-Polarized Antenna

Abstract

A novel dual circular-polarized (CP) wide-angle scanning phased array is proposed for satellite communication in this paper. The phased array consists of planar horizontal dual-polarized antenna element and vertical polarized antenna element. To improve the axis ratio (AR) bandwidth of the phased array at large scanning angles (60° - 80°), vertical polarized antennas are proposed to replacing horizontal polarized ports to synthesize circular polarization. The phased array has a simulated scan range of ± 70° in operating band. The AR is under 2 dB at the scanning region of ± 80°.
