Abstract
A double-layer oxidation protective coating was prepared on carbon/ carbon composites using a simple and low cost method. The coating consists of an inner buffer layer of β-SiC and an outer layer of molybdenum disilicide particles dispersed in a magnesium boron aluminosilicate glass (SABM). Oxidation test shows that, after oxidation in air at 1573 K for 150 h and thermal cycling between 1573 K and room temperature for 20 times, the weight loss of the coated material is only 1.07%. The decreasing of the sample weight is primarily due to the debonding of some glass on the coating surface.
